2006 Wing Ding Motorcycle Rally Blog - Day 7

This year I'm publishing highlights of the 2006 Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) Wing Ding rally, day by day in a blog. Wing Ding was scheduled for July 3-6 this year. The blog will also include my preparation in getting ready to take the ride to Nashville, TN and my observations while there.

Today we woke up to thunderstorms in the Nashville area so I was a bit concerned that our scheduled trip today might be a wet undertaking. But, I was wrong. We got on a shuttle bus and rode over to the General Jackson, claimed to be the world's largest showboat. We climbed up to the top "hurricane" deck and enjoyed a slightly rainy concert by Bob Fortner. Then we went below to the main deck for a sumptuous buffet lunch at assigned tables.

Afterwards, we were entertained by the antics of Tim Watson and his group. Tim is an energetic country singer who plays a mean fiddle and dances like a leprechaun, always with a twinkle in his eye. He told jokes and engaged the audience including a closing number where he asked for a volunteer. Our fun loving cheerleader, Mike from F-Troop, climbed to the stage. Tim wanted to show him how to play the fiddle. He gave Mike the bow and had him hold it vertically in both hands. Tim then ran the fiddle across the stationary bow playing a selection, shown here.

All in all, we have been exposed to a lot of live country and bluegrass music the last few days and it certainly made the trip to Nashville a unique motorcycling experience.

Tomorrow, Jane and I will be attending a luncheon for GWRRA master tourers which is the highest level in rider education. Jane is the master tourer. Also on tap for tomorrow is packing for our continuing trip to Maggie Valley, NC. The blog for Friday will be switching to the BuRP Rally.
