Buy a Motorcycle - Part 3

By Walter F. Kern

Part 3: Closing the Deal

  • Play hardball with the salesperson. The dealer wants to work with you. If they work with you, give them your other business such as apparel, repairs, and accessories. Try to emphasize that this is the start of a relationship, and they will try to work with you more.

  • As always, do your homework. You are up against a pro in negotiations when you buy a motorcycle and lack of preparation will cost you big. After the deal is nearly done, you can almost always get them to sweeten it a little. A motorcycle helmet, cover or jacket can almost always be thrown in because after the salesperson has spent a good amount of time, they don't want to lose the sale.

Conclusions

There are many ways to buy a motorcycle. Use what works for you. The tips given here were compiled from various motorcycle forum postings by real motorcyclists giving their experiences in buying a motorcycle. If you have some tips on how to buy, negotiate, deal with H-D dealers, get good financing, insurance, discounts on bikes and accessories, etc., send me an email.

Good luck as you buy your next motorcycle.
