Magazine Articles:
Cycle World -- December 2006, page 58 -- BMW R1200S
"Fire up the bike in the morning and it's a little cold-blooded, but after a brief warm-up settles into a mellow purr and pulls cleanly from low rpm. The fact that the updated engine revs higher than any Boxer to date was frequently lost on us. The torque that this new mill generates from just past idle all the way up to 7500 rpm invites the rider to shift early and ride the grunt wave." -- Blake Connor, Associate Editor
MCN -- December 2006, page 12 -- BMW R1200S
"All of the Hexhead Boxers use a new six-speed transmission using strong, quiet, helically-cut gears and lightweight dog-clutch sliders. Aside from its extra horsepower, the slick-shifting new six-speed gearbox is the greatest improvement in the S. Not only are its ratios well-spaced and shifting requires very low effort, unlike the R1100S' old five-speed, but both the new 5th and 6th gears are overdrives to allow high road speed with modest revs." -- Walt Fulton, Contributor
Rider -- November 2006, page 28 -- Character Sport: 2007 BMW R1200S
"Stopping power on the R1200S is provided by the usual strong triple discs, the opposed four-piston calipers up front having good linear power and the rear pedal not too much. I liked this unlinked, non-servo-assisted version of BMW's ABS best among its current offerings, as it doesn't intrude on braking feel. The brake and clutch lever each have small adjusters for different-size hands, and the fluid reservoirs (including the rear brake's) are remote for light weight and easy replacement." -- Mark Tuttle Jr., Editor
