2006 BuRP Motorcycle Rally Blog - Day 5

This year I'm publishing highlights of the 2006 BuRP rally, day by day in a blog. BuRP was scheduled for July 10-15 this year. The blog will also include my preparations for getting ready to take the ride to Maggie Valley, NC from the Wing Ding rally at Nashville, TN and my observations while there.

Today was the Ride to Hot Springs, NC and the ride to Deal's Gap.

This was the day that two of our traveling knapsacks met for the first time. Knappy, our original knapsack that started in Oregon, and the third knapsack, OB-1, are shown here together.

My large picture gallery continues to expand. It now has 32 pictures. See the gallery by clicking the picture in this blog.

One of our members had an accident today that required an airlift to UT Hospital. Vulcan008 (Tony) was riding with some forum members on the Cherohala Skyway when his bike hit a guardrail and he did a highside. There was also another motorcycle accident quite close to them that required an airlift. Bill Wood and Ed went to the scene with a trailer and retrieved his bike and returned it to the motel. Tony wants to get it repaired quickly and be ready to return home as soon as he is released from the hospital.

This evening we all waited for the trailer to return with Tony's bike. It arrived after dark and damage was apparent to the right side of the handlebar area.

Two BuRP rally-goers, Ricky, a lifetime friend of Jack Riepe, and Sammye had birthdays to celebrate so a cake was presented to them. See pictures.

We all met in the pavilion about 10 p.m. for a special presentation by Jack Riepe representing the Board of Directors of Perdition's Socks, a secret organization. Jack handed out T-shirts to Perdition's Socks forum members who had attended the BuRP rally. See pictures. Other original BuRP members were asked to tell motorcycle stories that had to do with the BuRP rally. See pictures.

Tomorrow will be a 160-mile RT run to Caesar's Head State Park, a tour through the Wheels Through Time Museum, and a 10-mile Twilight Lake ride. Since Jane and I will be leaving early Thursday morning, we will be doing some packing and loading of the trikes also.
