Motorcycle Recall - Ducati Recall

By Walter Kern

NHTSA Campaign ID:  14V166000
Component:
Manufacturer:  Ducati North America
Recall Date: 04/04/2014
Potential Number of Units Affected: 2,083
Defect Summary:
Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 1199 Panigale and Panigale S motorcycles. The left handlebar switch may not get power from its connection at the dashboard, preventing the horn, instrument panel display, high beam and right turn signals from functioning. As such, these motorcycles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."
Consequence Summary:
The rider's inability to use the horn, right turn indicators and high beam could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional wiring harness, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on May 16, 2014. Owners may contact Ducati at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is RCL-14-001.
