Motorcycle Recall - Kymco Recall

By Walter F. Kern

NHTSA Campaign ID:  16V392000
Component:  Power Train
Manufacturer:  KYMCO USA
Recall Date: 06/01/2016
Potential Number of Units Affected: 476
Defect Summary:
KYMCO (KYMCO USA) is recalling certain model year 2016 K-Pipe motorcycles manufactured March 1, 2016, to May 25, 2016. In the affected models, the gear shift pattern was assembled in a reverse sequence when compared to the standard setup. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."
Consequence Summary:
If the motorcycle shifts opposite of other motorcycles, a rider may be confused and may select the wrong gear, adversely affecting control of the motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact KYMCO customer service at 1-888-235-3417.
