Motorcycle Recall - BMW Recall

By Walter F. Kern

NHTSA Campaign ID:  17V467000
Component:  Wheels
Manufacturer:  BMW of North America, LLC
Recall Date: 07/21/2017
Potential Number of Units Affected: 37
Defect Summary:
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017 BMW C650 GT and BMW C Evolution scooters for failing to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and rims-other than passenger cars." The front rims may not be marked with the required rim type and the DOT designation.
Consequence Summary:
Since the rim is not marked with the rim size and the DOT designation, a tire of the incorrect size may be installed on this rim, affecting the handling of the scooter and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace any rims that are not correctly marked, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 15, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
