Motorcycle Santa - Special Times

Motorcycle Santa took off his coat and sat down on the floor next to three-year-old Ian.

"Ian, I have something here for you to play with," said Motorcycle Santa pulling a set of blocks out of his bag and placing them on the floor in front of Ian.

"I like blocks," said Ian. "We have them at school."

Motorcycle Santa knew that Ian was in pre-school now and they had lots of educational toys to play with. Even blocks, which were some of the first toys, were still widely used to both entertain and educate kids.

"What do you do with your blocks at school Ian?"

"I play with them," said Ian in his tiny voice. "I build houses and bridges and towers. I stack 'em up and knock 'em down boom."

"Do you learn anything with the blocks Ian," asked Motorcycle Santa.

"I learn my ABCs and numbers from them. Mommy helps me make words like cat. That's C-A-T. And numbers like how old I am. That's 3. These blocks you brought me don't have numbers. Only letters. How come?"

"Well, these are good for spelling words but don't help much with numbers," said Motorcycle Santa. "I need to make two sets, one with letters and one with numbers and then pack them together. Would that make a good toy for next Christmas?"

"I like blocks," repeated Ian.

Motorcycle Santa knew that kids liked blocks. He knew that Ian wasn't much of a talker yet but he would be, especially if he got more toys that he could learn from as well as knock down.

"Ian," said Motorcycle Santa, "You've been a big help to me. Keep the blocks and maybe I'll have a lot more for you next year."
