Wild Motorcycle Tales Here's a great story from John. Got your own story? Send it to me. The Plate Glass Window I got my first motorcycle in 1982, a Kawasaki KZ440. I had never ridden before and the dealer gave me minimal training. I left the dealership and went about 100 yards, where I had to either take a right or a left. I could not find the brake, so I went straight ahead where I hit the curb. I was going fast enough that I hopped off the bike and basically ran a few steps without falling. After traveling 5-6 steps, my progress was stopped by a building. This was not an ordinary building. It happened to be a very busy restaurant with large plate glass windows. The first contact with the window was with my helmet, with the rest of my body close behind until I was in a spread eagle position against the window. The window made a terrible noise, but did not break. I peered in the window and was surprised to see virtually all the diners looking at me. Apparently, the noise inside the restaurant when I hit the window was even louder inside than it was outside. In the background my bike was revved up, laying on its side with the wheels not touching the ground. Embarrassed, I quickly picked up my bike and got the heck out of there. -- John
