Wild Motorcycle Tales

Here's a great story from edeee2. Got your own story? Send it to me.

Water Hazard

It was in the middle '60s. About six of us decided to go on a weekend ride. We left Ohio and headed for Sky Bridge in KY.

We got in the area and gassed up. We asked the gas attendant about a campground. He told us there were none in the area and no reasonably close motels. However, he told us on the road ahead there were several rock overhangs where bikers sometimes camped.

It was dark and we watched as we rode. We saw several, but none to our liking. Finally we spotted one that would do.

We stopped in the middle of the road. A couple of bikes in the group were slightly ahead of us. One bike was a big twin with bags only. The grass along the road was level with the roadway.

The big twin attempted a "U" turn but the front wheel slipped off the pavement and into the grass. Little did anyone know there was a ditch about three feet deep filled with water.

Naturally, the front wheel and the rest of the bike including rider and passenger went in the wet ditch. Then they fell over.

The rider on the bike next to him put down his kickstand and jumped in to help. He did not know about the water until he was in the ditch helping. He let out a string of profanities and everyone stopped at the edge.

The three in the water had no part of them dry.

We eventually got the bike and people out. No one was hurt, just wet.

We camped and they hung their clothes by the fire to dry. The last guy in left his jockey shorts hanging by the fire when we left as a sort of grim reminder.

The rest of the trip we had a good time and laughed a lot. -- edeee2
