Wild Motorcycle Tales Here's a great story from edeee2. Got your own story? Send it to me. Motorcycle Games Quite a number of years ago, motorcycle field meets were a popular item. Field meets were rider ability and skill. "The King of Clubs" bike club used to host two field meets a year. These events at times consisted of various events. One event was the slow race. Another was where the rider and passenger each participated. The passenger held a cup full of water. First bike from point A to point B with the least spillage of water won. Also there was the egg on a spoon race. Then there was the wiener bite. The rider would ride slow and the passenger would stand on the pegs and try to get the biggest bite of the wiener. If you had no wife or girlfriend you could get a buddy to ride with you. Two guys were doing the wiener bite and the guy passenger stood and bit the wiener. As luck would have it, the string got caught in his front teeth. As they rode away, the string pulled his front teeth out. Fortunately he had false teeth. There were drag races too. About 100-150 feet or so. One club member of the host club -- everyone called him "Crazy John" -- used an old 80" flathead Harley complete with foot clutch and tank shift. He had a studded snow tire from a car on the rear. When Crazy John rode he lived up to his name. He rode hard and tried to win every event he entered. Crazy was a skillful rider. The old flathead was stripped of everything that did not make the bike go or stop. Fenders, lights, etc. were gone. The flatty had a trans that had reverse in it. Crazy John learned how to ride it in reverse with feet up on the footboards. He would challenge anyone to race backwards. I was the first to beat him with my old police Servi-Car trike. After that, several sidecar rigs cleaned his clock. Crazy had the first V8 powered trike I ever saw. Eldorado front wheel drive setup with a trike. Dual 4 carbs. This would fly. At times during half time at flat track races he would do the 1/2 mile track on the rear wheels. In the paved part of the parking area he would do burnouts that were unbelievable, but impressive. It was told that Crazy John had a stable of bikes that were fabulous. I never saw them but heard tales of choppers to very old originals and restored antiques. John was from the Dayton Ohio area. -- edeee2
