Motorcycle User Reviews - 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan Meanstreak 1600

My Meanstreak can't seem to figure out where it wants to idle. Sometimes it idles too fast, sometimes too slow and wants to shut down and often does. I have to continually mess with the idle and/or choke. I think all this is normal for a Kawi Meanstreak -- is it? I just bought the bike so I'm thinking about returning it. Anyone else having the same problem? I also have an '05 Kawi Vulcan 750 that has similar problems. This must be a Kawasaki thing. -- Steve "The Vulcan"

Super value bike. I am a rider since 1958 with over one million miles in Europe, Asia, and USA. I've had many bikes: dirt, dual adventure, hardtail H-Ds, springers, etc. Never buy new. I always find a bike at a huge discount that some idiot paid list for. Just keep looking.

I found a 000140 mile 2006 black Mean Streak w/ FI 1600cc (1552) with full factory warranty for next eight months. The engine has hydraulic lifters, noisy and with that type cam/lifter combo. No sense to try for power in upper RPM ranges. Lifter fluids will "leak down" only so fast. Fluid dynamics... so power is low-to-middle.

Muffler is too restrictive but can be modified easily with a bigger air box.

Without spending large coin, gains can be had in the real world use of this bike but best is balance, handling, brakes, tires, and comfort. It's an easy rider, a real achievement Kawasaki should be proud of. The real test is how it is in seven years and 50K miles? -- Satyr

I have had the 2006 Mean Streak for about two weeks now and have a little over 200 miles. Went from a Honda Shadow Aero 750. (WOW it's a big difference.) I am only 5'3" (female) but my feet can reach the ground. The pegs, shift, and brake are not too far away.

The only complaint is the long reach to the handlebars, but I will get that fixed. Otherwise, I'm in love with this bike.

The power is unbelievable and it is almost impossible to keep it below 3000 RPM for the break-in of 600 miles.

I have caught my dad riding it twice as he keeps his bike (Honda 1100) in my garage. Think he is going to buy himself one too.

Good riding. -- Lisa
