Motorcycle User Reviews - 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250

Motorcycle picture of a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250

I have put 5000+ miles on my 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250. I changed the gearing to 16F and 38R. I put one inch riser handlebar blocks on.

I am 6'1" and 200 lbs. I cruise sitting up pretty much @ 75-85 GPS true MPH for 50-200 mile one way trips. The speedometer is 5 mph fast above 65.

Its ride is comfortable with the higher bars and taller gearing. It smooths the basic bumps nicely.

The engine turns 1000 RPM less in sixth gear than stock @ the same speed. I can downshift @ 90-95 indicated and it tops out true (GPS) @ 105 in sixth, prone position.

After a 1-2 mile warm up @ 6K or below RPM I run this bike pretty hard. 9-12K RPM per shift and 9-11K RPM constantly on Interstate 95 in Florida. It just screams like a fine turbine.

Nothing has broken or worn down. I adjusted the drive chain once. I've just replaced the rear stock tire with a replacement OEM.

It does not have much "grunt" when first taking off, but wind it up past 7K RPM and start shifting. It scoots along real nice.

The handling is very light and confidence inspiring.

The extra room under the seat and the four flip-out luggage hooks are a bonus.

Gas mileage is, at best, 73 mpg when I can keep it 55 mph or under tooling along A1A or at worst, 40-45 mpg when screaming @ 85-105 mph. It runs just fine on cheap unleaded. It has Amsoil 10W40 motorcycle oil in its crankcase. The transmission shifts smooth and precise.

For the money, this has been one of 80+ motorcycles I've owned and ridden since 1965 that always puts a smile on my face. To sum it up in one word, pure FUN.

Ride everything well, live long and prosper in all things. -- Mark
