47 Years of Harley-Davidson Sportster - Gallery Picture

This is my original 1979 Harley-Davidson Sportster "Hugger." I'm the original owner and it currently has only a little over 2900 original miles. The only modifications that have been made are as follows: soft cushion grips, sissy bar and back rest, Acell chrome regulator, highway pegs, dual mirrors and Acell plug wires. I call it "The Orphan" because this model was introduced in early February 1979 and searching all the H-D archives and magazines, I have concluded that this model ceased to exist later that year or early 1980, without any fanfare. What made it different from the XLH or XLS is that it had shorter shocks (12 1/2") and a low profile seat making the ground clearance only 29 1/2". It also has a 16" rear wheel and 19" front wheel, both laced. Very rare. I haven't found any others that exist in their original form, yet. -- Jon
