Motorcycle Recall - Jonway

NHTSA Campaign ID:  09V132000
Component:  Service Brakes, Hydraulic: Foundation Components: Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings
Manufacturer:  Jonway Motorcycle
Recall Date: 04/15/2009
Potential Number of Units Affected: 180
Manufactured:
Defect Summary:
Jonway is recalling 180 model year 2008 Sunny motorcycles. The scooters were intended to be built with rubber hydraulic brake line that is routed through a retainer to prevent front tire contact. However, in some cases, the retainer may not have been installed during scooter assembly. If the retainer is missing, the front tire may rub through the brake line.
Consequence Summary:
If the line is rubbed through, the front brake may not operate properly which could result in a crash.
Corrective Summary:
Dealers will inspect the front brake line and its routing. A retainer will be installed on the scooter without retainers. Brake lines that have been rubbed by the front tire will be replaced free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during April 2009. Owners may contact Jonway at 972-408-6804.
