Motorcycle Recall - XINGYUE

NHTSA Campaign ID:  10V405000
Component:  Service Brakes, Air: Controls: Foot Control
Manufacturer:  ZHEJIANG XINGYUE Vehicle CO., LTD
Recall Date: 08/29/2010
Potential Number of Units Affected: 305
Manufactured:
Defect Summary:
XINGYUE is recalling certain model year 2009 and 2010 motor scooters manufactured from March 2009 through June 2010. The rear brake control is actuated by the driver's right foot and not the left hand as required by Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard No. 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays." Editor's Note: The wording of this statement is unclear. It appears that this manufacturer has the rear brake control on the left handlebar instead of on the rightside brake pedal.
Consequence Summary:
The motorcycles do not meet the minimum requirements of the braking standard.
Corrective Summary:
XINGYUE will notify owners and replace the rear brake system free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during January 2011. Owners may contact the Auto Moto at 1-310-601-7220.
