Motorcycle Equipment Recall - Ivolution Sports IV2 Motorcycle Helmet

By Walter F. Kern

NHTSA Campaign ID:  16E064000
Component:  Equipment
Manufacturer:  Ivolution Sports, Inc
Recall Date: 07/21/2016
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,007
Defect Summary:
Ivolution Sports, Inc. (Ivolution Sports) is recalling certain IV2 JX-SKY helmets, sizes S, M, L, XL manufactured February 1, 2015, to July 15, 2016. These helmets may have two detachable plastic accessory pieces, a plastic mohawk and a face mask, that were attached with small screws. These accessory pieces may alter the angle of impact and neck position in a motorcycle crash. As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, "Motorcycle Helmets."
Consequence Summary:
If the accessories are attached with a rigid connection such as with screws, the rider has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
Ivolution Sports will notify owners, and provide owners a full refund, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2016. Owners may contact Ivolution Sports customer service at 951-852-6327. Ivolution Sports number for this recall is JXSKY-RECALL(201607).
